It’s no secret that Asia is a vast collection of languages and cultures, with disparate legal frameworks and ways of doing business. Understanding privacy and data protection in the region can be dizzying. However, the APEC Privacy Framework is beginning to bring some uniformity to the region and has made great strides in recent years. So, just as Japan begins to enforce a new law restricting data flows, and Singapore cracks down on notice and consent, a way forward may be emerging for creating a program that allows you to move data relatively painlessly. This program explores the major privacy issues in the Asia-Pacific region and provides some thoughts on navigating them.
